Lucky Man (Girl!)

I Finally found some time to read a book; Lucky Man. Lucky Man is the autobiography of Michael J Fox. It's a really compelling book, and really made me think of what's important in Life, and how short life is and how I shouldn't take anything for granted. I also thought how lucky I am (yes, I'm still referring to my self as girl, after all I'm young at heart!) for everything I've got, even though I sometimes complain about the little things.

I was a huge fan of Michael J Fox, and was shocked to hear that he had Parkinson's disease. I remember watching Family Ties and Back to the Future as a kid and totally loving them both.

There were a few lines from the book which really stayed with me,
"It wasn't for me to fret about time or loss but appreciate each day, move forward, and have faith that something larger was at work, something with it's own sense of timing and balance."

He also reminded me of the famous prayer "God Give me serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference."

He had finished with another one of my favourite lines by George Bernard Shaw
"This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy."
This is the start of the line that I've written as the description of my blog. ("I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work the more I live. Life is no 'brief candle' for me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations")
